Dinosaur is derived from the , 'Deinos' meaning 'terrible' and 'sauros' meaning 'lizard'. Thus, Dinosaur means terrible lizard even though dinosaurs were not really lizards. They were some of the biggest land animals to have ever thrived on this planet. They lived in the Mesozoic Era about 65 millon years ago. One day, however, a huge asteroid wiped them off the face of the Earth.
